On 30 July, the action thriller “Airliner Sky Battle” will be released on the U1 Films Berlin label by UCM.ONE as a German DVD, Blu-ray & VOD premiere in the uncut US unrated version. With this film, The Asylum revives the genre of 1970s air disaster films.
Twenty years after the horrific terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, director Rob Pallatina has made the horror that the occupants of the planes had to live through the subject of his film. The question: “What do you do if the plane you are sitting in is hijacked by terrorists and is to be used as a weapon?” was one that many asked themselves after the attacks – Pallatina gives a possible answer.
Synopsis:
Two top Russian terrorists hijack an American airliner and plan to crash it into a nuclear power plant near Washington, D.C.. The resulting nuclear catastrophe would level much of the US East Coast. The twist in their plan is that they have already planted a complex virus in the Pentagon’s computer system in advance that will cripple the entire military and all defence capabilities. IT scientist Dr Meili Liu (Bai Ling) is now working feverishly to repair the defence system and get the interceptors in the air.
But there are only 60 minutes left before the hijacked plane reaches the power station. Only a fully occupied passenger plane is within range of the hijacked plane – but are they willing to pay such a price to prevent an even bigger disaster?
