From 6 to 27 December 2020 the Goethe-Instituts Indonesien, Thailand and Malaysia are jointly presenting the online film festival entitled Darling, Berlin! Berlin Sayang! Berlin, Teerak! This year’s program screens six independent from the film label Darling Berlin located in the German capital. The films were mainly made by directors who had only one or two professional films to their credit – young directors who studied at the Film Academy in Berlin and worked in the capital. Their works exhibit great enthusiasm and courage in experimenting with uncompromising visual language and performances by as yet mostly unknown actors.
The filming location Berlin is also of special importance in these stories because this year celebrates the 30th anniversary of the reunification on 3 October 1990 of the formerly divided Germany, which began on 9 November 1989 with the fall of the Berlin Wall thanks to the peaceful revolution.
The people responsible for this festival at the Goethe-Institut said:
“We are very pleased to present these six feature films to an audience interested in German films in our three countries, especially at a time when many cinemas are still closed. We hope that this online film festival will unite Indonesian, Thai and Malaysian film fans and bring 2020 to a good conclusion across national borders. We hope you enjoy Darling, Berlin! Berlin, Sayang! Berlin, Teerak!“
