In the feature film “Datsche” by female director Lara Hewitt, the New Yorker Valentin sets off across the Atlantic to pursue his German roots. The dacha, which his late grandfather left to him, is located in a sleepy allotment garden in the former East of the Republic, near Berlin. Not all neighbors welcome him with open arms, but with much curiosity and a “phonebook thick” rules …
