Italian black-death-core heavyweights Drown in Sulphur have signed with the German label Noble Demon and unveiled their brand-new single and music video, “New Moon Rising on Florence”. The track is taken from their upcoming EP, “Strix”, which is due for release on 11 September.

A clear indication of the band’s changed musical direction, “New Moon Rising on Florence” is a raw, intense and uncompromising track. This single serves as a central point of reference, drawing on old memories of the deathcore era with its strong black metal influences, whilst signalling a deliberate shift towards a less symphonic and more hardcore-oriented sound.

The band say: “With ‘New Moon Rising on Florence’, we wanted to capture a sound that is completely authentic and unmistakably ‘Drown in Sulphur’.” “Following the changes to our current line-up, we entered a phase of intense self-reflection. We knew we had to change – to return to our roots whilst adapting to the modern era. We focused on the pure essence and left out the aggressive elements. The result is a track that feels incredibly authentic and devastating.”

They continue: “Thematically, this song and the entire EP delve into profound, biblical and dystopian contexts that are closely and strongly interwoven with Masonic references. All of this forms part of the ‘Strix’ concept, which centres on the mythological figure of the ‘Strix’ – an ancient, ominous night bird that heralds a bad omen. Florence serves as the backdrop and points to a new, rebellious perspective on the world, in which ancient fears resurface in the present day.”

List of tracks:

  1. Neither Night Nor Day
  2. Groan From The IXth Circle
  3. New Moon Rising On Florence
  4. Oscolum Infame
  5. The Heptad Omen

*Strix* by Drown of Sulphur is a work born out of a hunger for a new style, presenting a desperate yet focused creation. This forthcoming EP leaves the traditional symphonic style behind and presents a raw, complex sound inspired by the art of profound storytelling – a sound that blurs the line between religious awe and acoustic violence.

With “Noble Demon”, the band is making its mark at a time when the label is increasingly expanding its style into even more extreme territory, and the label’s head, Patrick Walch, comments on this completely new direction as follows: “I’ve been following this band for quite some time, as I’m personally a big fan of deathcore and Drown in Sulphur’s sound is simply outstanding. Intense and unique, it hits you right in the face, and for fans of death metal, metalcore, modern metal and everything in between, it’s exactly what you’re looking for. Check out their impressive catalogue and keep an eye on the links to the most popular and useful streaming services, as new music is coming soon.”

The band shares this enthusiasm and adds: “We’ve signed with Noble Demon, a new, up-and-coming and professional label. With their help and support, we’re embarking on a new journey and a new adventure.”

There’ll be lots of news, and above all, there’ll be new music. Stay tuned!”

Drown in Sulphur were formed in Milan, Italy, in 2014 and soon caused a stir on the underground metal scene. With their first powerful singles, “An Epilogue to the Arrogant” and “Blackwind”, they racked up millions of streams and views. Inspired by an inexhaustible wellspring of creativity, this project has released several powerful albums, including *Sulfur Cult* (2021) and *Dark Secrets of the Soul* (2024), as well as the rebellious *Vengeance* (2025).

Bolstered by its current, determined line-up, the band is now entering its most authentic era to date. “Strix” will be available on all major streaming platforms from 11 September. The EP is already available for pre-order.
