On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy, UCM.ONE releases in Germany on the film label “M-Square Pictures” the film “D-Day“, which tells the story of a special unit that was deployed as a suicide mission right at the beginning of the fighting operations. The film with the German name “D-Day – Stoßtrupp Normandie” has a strong cast with Randy Courture, Chuck Liddell, Weston Cage Coppola and Jesse Kone.
Based on the true story of a suicide squad that was to eliminate strategically important German MG and cannon positions on Omaha Beach on the day of the Allies’ great Normandy offensive on June 6, 1944. The US elite ranger unit of the second battalion, led by Lieutenant General Omar Bradley (Chuck Liddl) and Lieutenant Colonel James Rider (Weston Cage Coppola), is to be the vanguard of the great invasion, sent to neutralize the large German Wehrmacht gun units stationed along the planned invasion line in bunkers on the coast and in the hinterland. The first German units are quickly overwhelmed, but the tensions between the rangers increase as the group takes prisoners of war and suddenly sees itself surrounded by German commandos. Now it’s all about bare survival.
Nick Lyon (* 25. April 1975 in Pocatello, Idaho) is a filmmaker, photographer and artist. After beginning a fine arts education in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, Nick Lyon traveled to Germany where he studied filmmaking for four years at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg (Germany) and began shooting music videos before directing his first feature film for Warner Bros, the thriller “I Love You, Baby” (2000), starring Maximilian Schell, Mark Keller and Jasmin Gerat. From there, Nick Lyon returned to America to direct his self produced film “Punk Love“. Since, Nick Lyon has directed a wide variety of films and TV in the USA and Germany. A craftsman with a love for creating new worlds, Nick loves the art of creating a cohesive look for each of his films.
He is one of few American directors who speaks fluent German and works in both the German and American film markets. Nick Lyon lives in Los Angeles. He is a member of the Directors Guild of America.
Weston Cage Coppola (* 26 December 1990 in Los Angeles, USA), is the son of Nicolas Cage and actress Christina Fulton. He graduated from Beverly Hills High School and studied acting at the Youth Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Stella Adler Academy of Acting & Theatre. He made his first foray into creativity with music and the black metal band “Eyes of Noctum“. The band worked with the noted Swedish metal producer Fredrik Nordström and released one album, 2009’s ‚“Inceptum“, but disbanded in 2012.
Although music is still important to him, Coppola now concentrates on acting and takes on the “challenge” his famous name brings with it, moving from small roles (including in “Drive Angry” (2011), “Lord of War – Dealer of Death” (2005) and “Joe – Revenge is his” (2013) to his first leading roles in Nick Lyon‘s film “D-Day” and the highly acclaimed horror film “Get Gone” by Michael Thomas Daniel.

Jesse Kove (* 2 November 1990 in Los Angeles, USA) was born into a family of actors. Raised on movie sets around the world, Jesse followed in his father’s, actor Martin Kove‘s, footsteps. When he was only 10 years old, Jesse created movies using his father’s video camera and performed skits for the whole family. Acting has been his passion ever since. Studying in various performing arts and improv classes and working as an actor throughout his younger years up into high school, Jesse continued his acting career as an adult. He moved to New York to perform off Broadway and later went back to L.A. to work in film and TV. Jesse starred alongside Joseph Fiennes in the World War II drama “On Wings of Eagles” (2016) and many more films and TV series.
Charles David “Chuck” Liddell (* 17 December 1969 in Santa Barbara, USA) is an American mixed martial arts fighter and actor. Chuck Liddell made his MMA debut in 1998 at the Ultimate Fighting Championship event UFC 17. On June 12, 2010, after a lost fight against Rich Franklin, UFC chief Dana White declared that Liddell would no longer compete for the UFC. This marked the end of his active MMA career. His competition statistics are 21 victories and eight defeats. He was accepted into the Hall of Fame of the UFC.
Chuck Liddell was a coach in season one and eleven of the reality TV series “The Ultimate Fighter“. Liddell also made a guest appearance in the second season of the series “Blue Mountain State” and the series “Bones – The Bone Hunter“. He played in the movies “How High” (2001), “Kick-Ass 2” (2013), “War Pigs” (2015) and “Altitude” (2017).
Randall Duane Couture (* 22 June 1963 in Everett, Washington, USA) is an American actor, former U.S. Army sergeant and retired mixed martial artist. During his tenures in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), he became a three-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, two-time UFC Light heavyweight Champion, an interim UFC Light heavyweight Champion, making him a six-time UFC Champion and the UFC 13 Heavyweight Tournament winner.
His acting carreer startet with a cameo appearance on the season finale of the CBS show „The Unit“ as a military guard. He then played fight commentator Terry Flynn in the film “Rebelt“. He starred in the 2008 film “The Scorpion King 2” and played Toll Road in the 2010 movie “The Expendables“, a role he reprised in the 2012 and 2014 sequels. He starred alongside 50 Cent and Bruce Willis in the 2011 film “Setup” and continues working in film and TV.
At Pointe du Hoc beach in Northern France there were six German positions with artillery guns that guarded the beach and could have fired at the American landing troops on the beach sections Utah and Omaha Beach. Although the positions were often attacked by bomber units and ship artillery, the fortifications were too strong and withstood the fire. Therefore, the US 2nd Ranger Battalion was ordered to destroy the guns on the morning of D-Day. The Ranger Battalion was led by Lieutenant Colonel James Earl Rudder. The plan was for the three ranger companies to land at the foot of the cliffs from the sea and then climb up the cliffs with ropes and ladders to conquer the cliff.
After some initial setbacks due to bad weather and navigation problems, the Americans landed 40 minutes later than planned at the foot of the cliffs, while the attack was supported by Allied destroyers. The Germans, however, resisted doggedly, throwing boulders and hand grenades at the Americans as they climbed up. At 7:08 a.m. all rangers had arrived on the cliffs and stormed the German positions. After a 40-minute action the cliffs were taken with relatively small losses. After the Rangers had conquered Pointe du Hoc, they were attacked several times by German troops on June 6 and 7 and encircled. The 116th US Infantry Regiment and the 5th US Ranger Battalion, coming from Omaha Beach, approached the enclosed rangers. On the night of 7 to 8 June, the commander of the German troops encircling the Rangers ordered them to retreat, after which the American reinforcements were able to break through.
By the end of the second day, the unit had shrunk from more than 225 men to 90 men still able to fight.
