The team of Darling Berlin and the staff of UCM.ONE mourn the loss of Zoltan Paul. The actor and director died unexpectedly on Friday July 1, 2022 at the age of 68. Zoltan Paul was part of the Darling Berlin family since his last two films “Amok – Hansi geht’s gut” in 2014 and “Breakdown in Tokio” (2017). Most recently, he worked on his latest tragicomedy „Überleben in Brandenburg“ (English title: “Survival in Brandenburg“) which was shot last fall with him in the lead role. Zoltan Paul (full name: Zoltan Paul Pajzs Freiherr von Rácalmás) was born on December 25, 1953 in Budapest and emigrated to Austria at the age of 12. There he made a splash as guitarist and singer of the rock group Dust. After training as an actor in Vienna and several engagements at various theaters, he switched to directing in the 1990s and, in addition to other theater work, wrote his first screenplays, which he then filmed himself after the turn of the millennium.

Zoltan Paul was a tireless fighter for his creative ideas and unique films. He was a role model for many of our young filmmakers. Our thoughts are with Zoltan Paul’s family.
