The new film by Dominik Galizia, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Ringo”, opens in cinemas nationwide today. The starting signal is given this evening at the Filmwelt Herne with the sold-out world premiere. Until the end of September, in addition to the numerous regular cinema screenings, the film team will go on an extensive tour of German cinemas with leading actor Martin Rohde and director Dominik Galizia. Various dates in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin, Leipzig and Munich have already been sold out for weeks in some cases.
“Rock ‘n’ Roll Ringo” is the sequel to ‘Heiko’s World’, which has been a long-running hit and cult film since 2022, attracting more than 25,000 viewers to cinemas. Martin Rohde once again plays the title role.
“Rock ‘n’ Roll Ringo” was shot last year by the Berlin film team in Herne, Gelsenkirchen, Bochum and Düsseldorf on 35mm with funding from the BKM and the Filmstiftung NRW. Locations include the Cranger Kirmes and the Düsseldorf Rhine funfair.
Summary
Ringo Fleisch (33), a scaffolder from Herne, climbs onto a scaffold one day while drunk and injures a colleague in an accident. He loses his job. Frustrated, he takes a job as a fitter at a funfair in Crange. He is fascinated by the colorful lights, the hustle and bustle of fairground life and the quirky characters, which offer him a new home. He goes on tour and leaves his deaf daughter Mia (12) behind with his mother. Ringo leaves Crange for the first time without knowing when he will return.
At the funfair, Ringo meets boxing stall boss Fränkie, who is impressed by Ringo’s physique and persuades him to fight in his stall as a prizefighter. Ringo is skeptical, but allows himself to be persuaded. Fränkie becomes his mentor and entices him with fast money, an adrenaline-filled life and star status at the funfair. He gives him the fight name “Rock ‘n’ Roll Ringo”. From fight to fight, Ringo dives deeper into the funfair family. The Great Hainz, a pantomime, becomes his loyal companion.
Through Jenny from the bumper cars, he gets to know the fast life of the funfair, even if he repeatedly clashes with her brother Mirko. Jenny and Ringo develop a fierce friendship, a mixture of affection and mutual benefit. But Ringo is driven by a different goal: At the end of the funfair season, he wants to sail to the North Sea on a cabin cruiser with his daughter Mia. In order to fulfill his daughter’s dream, Ringo gets more and more involved in the funfair life, and in the end he even takes part in a robbery. The movie ends tragically, although the dream becomes reality.
