Yesterday a very special event took place in Bremen: “Nico” was shown in a special screening at the Schauburg, at the invitation of SV Werder Bremen. Sara Fazilat, the film’s leading actress, producer and co-screenwriter – who also grew up in Bremen – presented “Nico” to the guests, who included Werder’s president and managing director Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald, managing director of football and former player Frank Baumann and representatives of the club’s board of directors.
The club’s website states:
“Nico” shows different forms of racism and discrimination and different ways of dealing with these experiences. But it also shows that there are not always solutions, not always a way to talk things out.” And further: “Jermaine Greene, anti-discrimination commissioner of SV Werder Bremen, related the film to the club in the discussion round after the screening: “Racism has always been an important issue for us. We have a very political ultra scene that has been dealing with this topic since its inception. On the other hand, we also have a hooligan scene that is open to the far right, which may no longer be present in the stadium, but is very much still around. Accordingly, there is a reference point and the issue is very present in the fan scene. This film fits our fan scene 1:1, because our fans always remind us to keep an eye on racism and not to ignore these political topics.” (Source: www.werder.de)
“Nico” will be released nationwide on 12 May 2022, of course also in Bremen!
