About Pizzera & Jaus

The Austrian music cabaret duo Pizzera & Jaus was founded in 2015 by Paul Pizzera and Otto Jaus. With their first hit single ‘Jedermann ’, they won Song of the Year in 2016 and quickly established themselves as one of the country’s most successful Austropop acts. Their album ‘Unerhört solide’ is one of the most successful Austrian productions in the country’s chart history. Director’s comment by Andreas Schmied

‘Neo Nuggets’ is a real labour of love for me as a director. After ‘Pulled Pork’, we didn’t just want to make a sequel, we wanted to tell a new, even bigger story – a mixture of espionage thriller and comedy, full of unexpected twists, absurd situations and fast-paced action. We asked ourselves: What happens when two guys like Flo and Eddi, who are actually just trying to get their lives together, are drawn into an international conspiracy? The answer: lots of chaos, lots of fun and lots of challenges – for them as well as for us as filmmakers.

What particularly appealed to me about ‘Neo Nuggets’ was the opportunity to expand our genre repertoire. We have big action scenes with stunts, diving sequences and chases – but always with the wink that Paul Pizzera and Otto Jaus bring to the table. At the same time, we tell an exciting but also socially relevant story about power, manipulation and the question of who can still be trusted in a world full of lies.

For me, however, the heart of the film is the chemistry between our characters. Paul and Otto once again engage in their typical verbal battles, Gizem Emre brings a completely new dynamic to the film as Samira, and Benno Fürmann provides the necessary menace as the charismatic antagonist. With Silvia Schneider as tough investigator Alice Gneisser, there is also a strong female character who confidently asserts herself in this chaotic world of men.

Our aim was to tell a story that is both exciting and hilarious, combining great cinema images with typical Austrian humour. ‘Neo Nuggets’ is a wild ride – a film with plenty of pace, action and heart that makes the audience laugh while still telling an exciting story. I can’t wait to see it on the big screen!

Statement by producer Loredana Rehekampff

‘Neo Nuggets’ is not just a sequel, but an even bigger, wilder adventure that ventures deep into the spy comedy genre. After proving with ‘Pulled Pork’ that Austrian action comedy works on the big screen, this time we’re going one better: more action, more suspense, more absurd situations – and of course more of Paul Pizzera and Otto Jaus, who once again manoeuvre their way through ludicrous chaos with their incomparable chemistry.

What makes ‘Neo Nuggets’ special is the mixture of classic agent film elements and our typical humorous style. We immerse our heroes in a world where nothing is as it seems: secret services, conspiracies, dubious treasures and an opponent who is as charismatic as he is dangerous. The story takes us from hectic chases across Austria to spectacular underwater scenes in Lake Toplitz – all with a good dose of Austrian humour.

Thanks to an outstanding cast consisting of both familiar faces and exciting new characters, we can give the film an even greater dynamic. Whether in the heated exchanges between Paul and Otto, the mysterious machinations of Benno Fürmann as the villain or the tense moments with Gizem Emre as Samira – ‘Neo Nuggets’ promises the best cinema for everyone who loves action, humour and adventure.

Our aim is not only to build on the success of ‘Pulled Pork’, but to create a cinema experience that captivates, surprises and makes our audience laugh. With ‘Neo Nuggets’, we are bringing a spy comedy to the big screen that is charming, exciting and simply damn entertaining.
