Der in die Jahre gekommene Sheriff Red Haines bekommt einen Spezialauftrag: Er soll Johnny Thompson, einen nahezu charmanten Einbrecher, in ein anderes Gefängnis überführen. Die ganze Sache läuft relativ rasch aus den Fugen, zumal sich die beiden seit Kindertagen kennen und Thompson die Fliege macht. Das alte Räuber-und-Gendarm-Spiel wird neu gespielt.

Aged sheriff Red Haines is given a special assignment: he is to transfer Johnny Thompson, an almost charming burglar, to another prison. The whole thing goes off the rails relatively quickly, especially as the two have known each other since childhood and Thompson is a fly on the wall. The old cops-and-robbers game is played anew.
