At 8:30 pm today, the film “Datsche” by Lara Hewitt will be screened for the first time in Berlin at the Lichtblick cinema as part of the festival achtung berlin – new berlin film award. Another way to see the movie is on Tuesday, 16.04.2019 at 17:30 in the Babylon cinema.
The film is about the Valentine, an out-of-work New York actor, who travels across the Atlantic in order to discover his German roots and stay at the ‘datsche’ or summer cottage that he inherited from his grandfather. His neighbours in the East German garden allotment colony welcome him with open arms, a lot of curiosity and more rules than he can ever dream to remember. However, not everybody is foreigner-friendly, especially not Gregor, a neighbour with passions for hedge-trimming and nationalism. Which is a problem for Valentine, since he happens to not only have a refugee hiding in his datsche attic, but also an international group of couch-surfing guests about to arrive in his garden…
