Stockholm-based dark metal band The Vice has announced the release of their brand new 3-track EP ‘The Red Tape Sessions’, which is set to drop on 5 December on German label Noble Demon. With the track ‘Cardinal Tropes’, the band gives a first taste of what’s to come. The single is accompanied by a music video, which can be viewed here:
The Vice on the song: “Sometimes things don’t have to be too complicated or pretentious. “Cardinal Tropes” started with just a few lines laid over a simple, cool rhythm. Those first few seconds made it very clear what kind of song this was going to be, so writing and arranging the rest was a breeze. The end result is a dazzling performance from The Vice, firing on all cylinders, a purple haze of mean rock “n” roll, dark metal, smugness and a youthful stubbornness to always take the road less travelled.”

From the outset, The Vice have gone their own way, driven by the desire to carve out their own place on the scene. And this dirty, wild-hearted metal/rock/pop fusion, with one foot firmly planted in the windy, frozen north and the other anchored in the concrete of the streets, truly sounds like nothing else.
Dark, blackened metal, wild rock “n” roll, punk and hardcore attitude, mixed with a large dose of the cultural giants of the 90s such as Guns N’ Roses, Pantera, Prince, grunge, Oasis, nu metal, Fight Club, The Matrix and Terminator 2, to name but a few. All of that – and everything in between – comes pretty close to the essence of The Vice.
With three albums and numerous EPs under their belt, the band stands as a confident, adrenaline-fuelled unit – a group of troublemakers in the starting blocks, ready to begin the next chapter in the saga of The Vice. The first step in this new era is ‘Cardinal Tropes’, the opening track of the mini EP ‘The Red Tape Sessions’, which brings 2025 to a colourful close. The track is a straightforward, mean-sounding statement – a perfect representation of The Vice in 2025.
