On Homeless Day on 11 September, the Babylon cinema is showing the documentary film *Berlin Bytch Love* (Darling Berlin, directed by Heiko Aufdermauer and Johannes Girke) today at 6 p.m. in cooperation with UCM.ONE and the Berlin Housing Crisis Working Group.

Berlin Bytch Love’ was made under the direction of Heiko Aufdermauer and Johannes Girke, who set themselves the goal of offering an intimate and non-judgmental insight into the lives of young people who live far from security, education and a sense of belonging. Over a period of two years, they followed Sophie and Dominik on their journey from the street to their own home, creating a film from over 100 hours of material that blurs the boundaries between documentary and fiction film.

Synopsis

With the intensity of a feature film, the film tells the story of Sophie and Dominik, a homeless couple facing a difficult situation. Sophie is pregnant, winter is approaching and Dominik is facing a prison sentence. A friend suggests fleeing to France, but a court date brings a surprising turn of events. A few weeks later, they find themselves in a small apartment in the forest, but the new life puts their relationship to the test.

In Germany, half a million people are considered homeless – and almost 30,000 of them are under 18 years old. In Berlin alone, around 3,000 young people live on the streets. Since their status is usually unresolved, no help reaches them. They are threatened by violence, disease, cold and abuse.

There will be a Q&A with the filmmakers after the screening. The working group Wohnungsnot Berlin, the city’s oldest networking body on homelessness, is using the event to draw attention to the living situation of young homeless people.
