Léon Bisquet führt ein isoliertes Dasein als belächelter Bahnhofsvorsteher in der nordfranzösischen Provinz. In the small village of Versins, the unappreciated stationmaster Léon Bisquet observes a mysterious stranger arriving by night, who is found murdered the next morning. The victim is the secret heir to the local Cadieu fortune, standing in the way of his greedy nephews. Instead of informing the police, Léon tries to blackmail one of the suspects to finally “show them all” and escape his life of insignificance. However, he becomes the target of a murder attempt and discovers that his own daughter is part of a ruthless conspiracy, leading to a tragic realization about his place in the world.
