From 14 to 28 November 2025, the cinema in Berlin will be transformed into an extraordinary classroom: in over 30 venues, school classes will experience a diverse and educational program of more than 50 current feature films, animated films and documentaries in around 250 film screenings. The School Cinema Weeks are a nationwide project to promote film education for schoolchildren and have been organized since 2006 by the initiative VISION KINO gGmbH – Network for Film and Media Competence, based in Berlin, in cooperation with numerous partners with the participation of the education and culture ministries of the federal states and the film industry.

The School Cinema Weeks Berlin 2025 kicked off with the festive opening event at the fully booked Berlin cinema Toni. The opening film was “Nulpen” by Sorina Gajewski (distribution and world sales: Darling Berlin / UCM.ONE).

In the cinema, around 250 students followed the protagonists of “Nulpen ” in a summer road movie on foot through Berlin: Ramona and Nico, two friends, “lazy rags” and fresh out of school, prefer to let the oppressive city summer take over rather than think about plans for the future. But after a neighbor’s window is broken and a bird flies away, they have no choice but to set off – into a politically charged Berlin that leaves them rather cold.

Director Sorina Gajewski narrates this aimless wandering with clear observation: the search for the bird, for Ramona’s little brother and sometimes also for a remnant of self-confidence leads through backyards, late-night shops, demos and encounters that turn out to be surprisingly important. It was precisely this fumbling progress, half reluctant, half curious, that offered many young people in the auditorium a strong potential for identification: familiar places, a laconic tone, the feeling of neither having grand visions nor wanting to stand still completely.

After the screening, a lively discussion ensued with the lead actresses Bella Lochmann and Pola Geiger, who gave insights into their characters, the filming in Berlin and the attitude of the film – a look at a generation that does not define itself by blueprints, but by moving on, even if the destination is still unclear.

UCM.ONE is handling the film’s theatrical distribution and global sales on the Darling Berlin film label and will release “Nulpen”in German cinemas from March 19, 2026.
