Dominik Galizia‘s feature film “Rock ́n ́Roll Ringo” will be presented internationally for the first time at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) on 4 February 2025. The film will be screened in the “Limelight” section, which is dedicated to avant-premieres and cinematic highlights from the current festival season.
‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Ringo’ is the new film by “Heikos Welt” director Dominik Galizia, again with Martin “Heiko” Rohde in the leading role.
The film focuses on Ringo Fleisch, a 33-year-old scaffolder from Herne who loses his job after an accident at work and, in his frustration, takes a job as a fairground technician. The dazzling world of fairground rides, showmen and curious characters quickly captivates him. Ringo leaves his 12-year-old deaf daughter Mia with his mother and goes on tour with the fair, which fundamentally changes his life. At the Cranger Kirmes fair, he meets boxing boss Fränkie, who gets Ringo interested in boxing and trains him as a prize fighter under the name ‘Rock “n” Roll Ringo’.
What begins as a distraction becomes Ringo’s new passion, drawing him deeper and deeper into the world of the fair. He is joined by colourful characters such as the loyal mime artist ‘Der Große Hainz’ and the resolute Jenny from the bumper cars.
But Ringo’s greatest hope remains his daughter Mia. His plan: at the end of the fair season, he wants to take her on a cabin boat to the North Sea. But to make this dream come true, Ringo becomes more and more involved in criminal activities. Despite the tragic end, Ringo’s dream comes true.
In the film, director Dominik Galizia sheds light on the fairground milieu between glamour and commerce, using a visual language strongly influenced by the technoid aesthetics of the 1980s. The film was released in German cinemas on 4 September 2024. UCM.ONE is responsible for distribution and world sales.
