| Description EN | Berlin and Stockholm in 1935: Anthony Farrant is charming, unreliable and out of money, an Englishman who has failed at everything he has tried. His sister Kate, devoted to him to an unsettling degree, is the confidante and mistress of Erich Krogh, an industrialist and financier whose empire reaches into politics as much as into business. She secures Tony a post at Krogh’s side, and for a while the easy money and the company of the powerful suit him well. But Tony keeps his shabby English decency, and it makes him a poor fit in a house where everyone else has learned to look away. As he begins to understand how Krogh’s finances actually work, and as a hungry journalist circles looking for a story, his usefulness turns into danger. Peter Duffell’s adaptation of Graham Greene’s early novel, with Peter Finch and Michael York, uses the rising Nazi backdrop to sharpen a study of opportunism, family loyalty and moral drift. |
