Following the death of Habsburg King Rudolf in 1291, a power vacuum leaves the valleys around Lake Lucerne exposed to the despotic new bailiff Gessler. Humiliated and robbed, the hunter Tell is drawn into a political struggle he wanted no part of. When the local nobility’s planned uprising collapses after Gessler buys them off, Tell decides to take matters into his own hands – and the legend, complete with the hat on the pole, the apple shot and the killing of the tyrant, ends in bloodshed. A gritty, ‚Braveheart‘-style retelling of Switzerland’s founding myth (original title ‚Tell – Jagd auf ewig‘ / ‚Tell – A Hunter’s Tale‘).
