The everyday problems of the protagonist are expressively represented with the help of cinematically beautiful images. Stereotypes towards foreign-read people are skilfully taken up, but powerfully refuted. This is accompanied by music, which is more present in certain situations and thus creates tension. With strong characters and intense camera work, the film convinced us and provoked thought. We as the jury recommend the film for ages 12 and up.&#8221;<\/em>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<strong>Nico<\/strong>&#8220;,\u00a0which was released nationwide in cinemas on 12 May 2022 by <span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;\"><strong>UCM.ONE<\/strong><\/span> on the <strong>Darling Berlin<\/strong> label, has already been listed by <strong>Vision Kino<\/strong> as a film tip for young people:\u00a0<a title=\"Nico @ Vision Kino\" href=\"https:\/\/www.visionkino.de\/filmtipps\/filmtipp\/nico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nico @ Vision Kino<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;64025&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;64003&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The film portrays <strong>Nico<\/strong>, a German-Persian geriatric nurse who, after a racist attack, decides to train in karate and never be a victim again. The film stars and is produced by Sara Fazilat; \u201c<strong>Nico<\/strong>\u201d is also her graduation film at the <strong>DFFB<\/strong>. The cinematographer was co-writer <strong>Francy Fabritz<\/strong>, who deliberately chose a handheld camera and an improvisational approach. Director <strong>Eline Gehring<\/strong> felt it was important to put women at the center and normalize the portrayal of non-white characters. For her portrayal of the main character Nico, <strong>Sara Fazilat<\/strong> was awarded in the category \u201c<em><strong>Best Acting Newcomer<\/strong>\u201c<\/em> at the 2021<strong> Max Oph\u00fcls Preis Film Festival<\/strong>, and the film also received the <strong>No Fear Award<\/strong> at <strong>First Steps<\/strong>.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<strong>Sara Fazilat<\/strong> also won the <strong>Bavarian Film Award<\/strong> for <em>&#8220;<strong>Best Newcomer<\/strong>&#8220;<\/em> for her acting performance in &#8220;<strong>Nico<\/strong>&#8221;
