On February 5, 2026<\/strong>, UCM.ONE<\/strong> will release the award-winning documentary \u201cCoexistence, My Ass!\u201d <\/strong> by Amber Fares<\/strong> in theaters in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.<\/strong> The film follows Israeli comedian and activist Noam Shuster Eliassi<\/strong> over several years and shows how political humor, personal attitudes, and social reality are becoming increasingly intertwined.<\/p>\n

Synopsis<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCoexistence, My Ass<\/strong>!\u201d follows Israeli activist and comedian\u00a0Noam Shuster Eliassi<\/strong>\u00a0as she creates her comedy show of the same name. Filmed over a turbulent five-year period, the documentary traces Noam\u2019s personal, professional, and political journey against the backdrop of the region\u2019s steadily deteriorating situation.<\/p>\n

Raised in the bilingual Israeli-Palestinian village of Wahat al-Salam \u2013 Neve Shalom (Oasis of Peace), a deliberately integrated community, Noam increasingly loses faith in traditional peace activism. She turns to stand-up comedy and quickly gains attention throughout the Middle East. But as her star rises, everything around her collapses.<\/p>\n

In our\u00a0film talk for the theatrical release<\/strong>, film critic\u00a0Christoph Terhechte<\/strong>\u00a0(festival director of DOK Leipzig until January 31, 2026; previously director of the Berlinale Forum) talks to\u00a0Amber Fares<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Rachel Leah Jones<\/strong>\u00a0about \u201cCoexistence, My Ass!<\/strong>\u201d \u2013 and how Noam Shuster Eliassi as the protagonist and her comedy carry a film that has been maturing for five years and will have to find new words after October 7, 2023.\u00a0Fares<\/strong>\u00a0describes how, as a long-time acquaintance, she began filming Noam at Harvard as she developed her one-woman show, without a finished dramaturgical plan;\u00a0Jones<\/strong>\u00a0describes the close on-site collaboration, the constant refinement of context and comprehensibility, and the strength of a diverse team spanning languages and perspectives. One thing is clear: the film dispenses with talking heads and turns Noam\u2019s stage into a narrative machine \u2013 self-questioning, commentary, safe space and risk all at once. The radical nature of this principle is evident in the escalation of the present: comedy here is not an escape, but a method of keeping contradictions visible.<\/p>\n
