The moving historical drama “Never Alone<\/strong>” (original title: Ei Koskaan Yksin) will be released in German cinemas nationwide on February 5, 2026. UCM.ONE<\/span> is bringing the latest internationally produced work by renowned Finnish director Klaus H\u00e4r\u00f6<\/strong> to the big screen\u2014a moving story of an unwavering hero who risked everything to save the lives of Jewish people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

To mark the film’s German theatrical release, UCM.ONE<\/span> is hosting a special premiere event on February 2, 2025, at 7:30 p.m.<\/strong> at CineStar Berlin | Kino in der Kulturbrauerei<\/span><\/strong> in cooperation with the Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg (JFBB)<\/span><\/strong> and the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB)<\/strong>. The cooperation underscores the thematic relevance of the film, especially since the Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg will focus its program on the Nordic countries in this year’s festival edition (May 5-10, 2026).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Following the screening of the film, which will be shown in its original version with German subtitles, the audience can look forward to an in-depth discussion of the film in German. Guests will include Austrian actors Naemi Latzer<\/strong> and Rony Herman<\/strong>, as well as Loredana Rehekampff<\/strong> (SAMSARA Filmproduktion, Vienna), Josef Brandmeyer<\/strong>, and John H\u00f6rnschemeyer<\/strong> (Penned Pictures) from the international production team. The Q&A will be moderated by Bernd Buder<\/strong> and Lea Wohl von Haselberg<\/strong> (program directors, JFBB).<\/p>\n

There, the film was invited to the prestigious “Modern Masters” section and awarded the “Best of Fest \u2013 Top Films Audience Award.”[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”3\/4″][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

The film also enjoyed success in Germany: the German premiere took place on June 13, 2025, as part of the 35th International Film Festival Emden-Norderney<\/strong>. There, Klaus H\u00e4r\u00f6<\/strong> was honored with the Silver SCORE Bernhard Wicki Award<\/strong>, presented by the audience.<\/p>\n

Synopsis<\/span><\/p>\n

During World War II, numerous German Jews seek refuge in Finland, believing it to be a safe haven. However, the situation is exacerbated by Finland’s alliance with Nazi Germany: Jewish refugees are threatened with deportation to German labor and extermination camps. Abraham Stiller<\/strong>, an influential businessman and respected member of the Jewish community, decides to take action. In order to save the refugees, he tries to accommodate them in his own production facilities \u2013 a project that increasingly pushes him to his limits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

About director Klaus H\u00e4ro\u0308<\/span> <\/b><\/p>\n

Klaus H\u00e4r\u00f6<\/strong> (born in Finland in 1971) studied directing at the University of Art and Design Helsinki<\/strong>. In 2002, he made his feature film debut with the children’s film “Elina<\/strong>,” which was Finland’s entry for an Oscar nomination<\/strong> in the Best Foreign Language Film category in 2004. Klaus H\u00e4ro\u0308<\/strong> became known primarily for “My Sailor, My Love<\/strong>” (2022) and “The Fencer<\/strong>” (2015), which was nominated for a Golden Globe<\/strong> and was once again on the Oscar list<\/strong> for Best Foreign Language Film.<\/p>\n

His wife, the non-Jewish Vera, is played by Nina Hukkinen<\/strong>. Other central roles include Hannu-Pekka Bj\u00f6rkman<\/strong> as the then Finnish Minister of Finance V\u00e4in\u00f6 Tanner and Carl-Kristian Rundman<\/strong> as Minister of the Interior Toivo Horelli. Kari Hietalahti plays Arno Anthoni, the newly appointed head of the state police. Austrian actor Rony Herman<\/strong> plays Georg Kollmann, a Jewish man, while Naemi Latzer<\/strong> and Rafael Simson Gouveia portray his wife Janka and their son Franz, who were deported in November 1942. Rain Tolk, European Shooting Star of the Year 2007, plays Heinrich Huppert, who was also deported, and Ruben Tolk plays his son Kurt. Lukas Walcher<\/strong> appears in a smaller role as a German officer, while Alexander Jagsch<\/strong> plays Heinrich M\u00fcller. Jouko Puolanto<\/strong> takes on the role of Finnish Prime Minister Johan Wilhelm Rangell. Satu Tuuli Karhu<\/strong> plays journalist Elina Sana, who interviews Stiller for a book in 1972.<\/p>\n
