In May 1945, as the Second World War draws to a bloody close, an almost unbelievable event takes place in a remote corner of the Tyrolean Alps: at Itter Castle, a gloomy prison for prominent French prisoners, an alliance is formed that shatters all previous notions of war, hostility and comradeship.

\nBut what happens next is historically unique: American soldiers join forces with a group of renegade German Wehrmacht soldiers who no longer want to be part of the Nazi madness.
