In order to progress to the next voting rounds, all films must fulfil the requirements – including the necessary cinema release or winning a qualifying film festival award. Submissions as an official entry in the “International Feature Film<\/b> \u2019 category are also eligible for the documentary film category.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”3\/4″][vc_column_text css=””]
\nThe members of the Documentary Branch<\/b> of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will vote on which 15 documentary films will make it onto the shortlist<\/b>. This will be announced on Tuesday, 17 December 2024<\/b>.
\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]\u2018One Hundred and Four<\/b>\u2019 therefore has the chance to qualify as one of the 15 finalists and possibly even be nominated for an Oscar. Summary<\/h3>\n

As the Libyan coast guard approaches the German lifeboat Eleonore, the 104 refugees on board become extremely agitated and the routine rescue operation has to be speeded up. The way a sea rescue can unfold is beyond imagination. The real-time documentary \u2018One Hundred and Four\u2019 brings this dramatic situation closer. The film shows how painfully long it takes to rescue 104 people from a sinking rubber dinghy. Person by person, step by step, the action is accompanied by several parallel cameras. The situation comes to a head when the Libyan coast guard appears. The rescued and the crew spend days at sea, as no Mediterranean country allows them to dock.
