Endspurt Der Autor Peter Ustinov hat sein Werk Endspurt ein biographisches Abenteuer genannt. Biographisch deshalb, weil sich hier der etwas ehrgeizige, aber sp\u00e4ter erfolgreiche Schriftsteller Sam Kinsale als Zwanzig-, Vierzig- und Sechzigj\u00e4hriger begegnet. Das Interessante an diesem Film aber ist, dass die vier Sams miteinander konfrontiert, sich also gegen\u00fcbergestellt werden. Dabei wird die Vielfalt eines achtzigj\u00e4hrigen Lebens transparent. Mit 20 liebt Sam Kinsale die junge Stella und will sie unbedingt heiraten. Doch 20 Jahre sp\u00e4ter hat er die Ehe satt und will sie verlassen. Er tut es aber nicht, weil sie ein Kind erwartet. Der Pfandleiher <\/strong>Die Verfilmung,\u00a0 nach dem B\u00fchnenst\u00fcck Angel in the Pawnshop von A. B. Shiffrin entstanden, spielt in der Pfandleihe des Mister Hilary. Er der Inhaber des Ladens herrscht hier h\u00f6chst eigenwillig. Das Leben hat dem alten Hilary arg mitgespielt, das l\u00e4\u00dft ihn nach au\u00dfen hin oft unerbittlich und manchmal sogar ungerecht erscheinen. Er wei\u00df aber genau, dass allzu gro\u00dfes Mitleid seinen Kunden auch nicht weiterhelfen, sondern ihnen nur schaden w\u00fcrde. Hilary wei\u00df um das Leid der Menschen, da viele bei ihm ein- und ausgehen. Da ist zum Beispiel der Polizist Tom, der seit langem auf seinen gro\u00dfen Fall wartet, oder Danny O Keefe, der nichts auf der Welt zu f\u00fcrchten scheint und sein M\u00e4dchen Lizzie mit aller Gewalt zur\u00fcckholen m\u00f6chte. Und da ist die kleine Lizzie Shaw, die sich aus Angst vor Danny O Keefe, den sie einmal geliebt hat, in Hilarys Pfandleihe fl\u00fcchtet. Hier glaubt sie, vor der Au\u00dfenwelt sicher zu sein, hier kann sie sich in ihre Tr\u00e4ume und Illusionen fl\u00fcchten und dar\u00fcber hinaus dem alten Hilary klarmachen, dass man die Welt auch in besserem Licht sehen kann …<\/span><\/p>\n
